Ridge Gourd (Dodka) Bhaji

Ridge gourd or Dodka another wonderful veggie from  the Indian cuisine, is one of my favorites.  After long time Abdul got the fresh supply dodka.  Now though this recipe is featuring on friday I cooked this for monday, when my  weekly visitor Ballu was not  around and Pillya is long gone. So here my recipe for the dodka.

Ingredients

1 medium sized ridge gourd neatly diced.
1 medium sized onion diced
3 tsp soaked moong dal
2 green chillies (optional)
1.5 tbsp chili powder
10ml oil
salt to taste
pinch of asafoetida
pinch of turmeric
1/2 tsp mustard seeds and cumin
Water to cook

Procedure :

Before you dice  the gourd using peeler you may peel of the ridges incase you dont prefer the rough texture.  generally do that.

In a pad heat the oil , to it add the cumin and mustard seeds. Once they splutter add the chopped chillies , asafoetida  add the onion and saute it well. To this add the soaked moong  daal. Once he onions turn nice golden braun in color add the turmeric, chilli powder and salt to it. Let it cook for half min and then add the diced  gourd to it.  Add water  to cook it. Generally the gourd cooks fast so 5-8 minutes. I kept less amount of water as I do not prefer watery sabji.  Serve it with garam  chappatis.

I had some rice cooked with moong dal, some chappatis with the dodka sabji.
