Smartphones for smart people, here they are!! What are smartphones and why are they ‘smart’? Do you need them? Let us take a quick look at the concept, its development and a comparative study of some of the most popular brands in the industry. I would like to clarify that this article is not meant for wizards of communication engineering, rather it is more of an introductory one.
The smartphone is certainly a communicating device that enables wireless voice calls like any other mobile phone. But their capabilities extend to a wider class of services ranging from e-mail access, global positioning enabled navigation, word processing and more importantly entertaining you. Of course, they have MP3 players with astounding audio quality and in-built DVD players. They also have high resolution cameras for taking pictures and recording videos.
Developing a smartphone isn’t an easy job. Think about compressing almost all the features of a desktop computer in a tiny little gadget that is barely the size of your palm. For a better audio quality, you need powerful amplifier, for video playing capability you need optimal screen resolution and to enable internet surfing, you need a faster processor. All this at the cost that is half of any state-of-the-art laptop!!! How is it possible? Well, the electronics that goes inside makes all the difference and the software unlocking its huge potential; yet the researchers are trying to pack more features in more compact space for tomorrow’s smartphones!
The smartphone is, in a sense, a smart choice for today’s business people who are always on the move. Imagine working on your presentation while sitting in a train! It is making the business run faster than ever. It has also radically changed the entertainment area. You can now watch your favorite You-tube videos virtually anywhere! Let us take quick look at the features that a typical smartphone would offer you and its specifications.
There are thousands of variants launched in last couple of years, and each brand is claiming to suit their customer needs. So, my suggestion before buying a smartphone would be to undergo your needs carefully and select the phone based on what you really need than what is actually available! Hope to come back with more trendy stuff, till then!
